Ecolympics
Students will participate in a housing-based competition intended to increase environmental awareness. The environmental coordinators will host a recycling competition while the Renewable Energy Club runs an energy conservation competition. Combined with a campus-wide campaign by SAVE, Ecolympics aims to educate students about sustainable living.

TIME/DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS

9 AM - 1 PM
The Dedication of a Garden in Remembrance of lives lost on September 11 will take place between 9 and 1 p.m. The garden is a short walk from Knowlton Green, between Fanning and Bill Hall.

9:30 AM
Local yoga instructor, Marya Ursin, will lead a series of sun salutations to kick off the day.

Mark Shepard, Storyteller
Mark, from DrumSongStory, is a musician and story teller. Sure to entertain all ages.

Ultimate Frisbee Team will host a game in the afternoon!

Mike Ewall speaks on "Milk Does Nobody Good."
Mike is currently active at the Philadelphia ACTION center working to increase corporate accountability.

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Mobroc presents "Pretty Sober," Connecticut College's only bluegrass/rock band.

2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
Linda Setchell discusses "Genetically Engineered Foods in Your Shopping Cart."
Linda works for the Clean Water Network, and currently runs its Safe Good Campaign.

3:45 PM - 4:00 PM
Announcements
Sign up for the raffle to win a compost bin or one of several student-designed EarthDay tee-shirts and frisbees.

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Mobroc presents "The Lingo" On-campus jazz/funk band.

5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Drum Circle
Led by the college's drumming teacher, Jerry Zeigler while Chief Seattle's famous environmental speech is read. Bring your instruments!

Under the Big Tent

All Day Events

  • Vendors: Native American crafts and music, henna tattooing, environmental literature, and more...

  • It's Only Natural: A local restaurant, will provide delicious vegetarian food.

  • Ben & Jerry's: ice cream to cool off

  • Campus activist groups: SAVE, Earth House, Renewable Energy Club and SEAL will provide educational materials as well as organic and vegan treats, stickers, tee-shirts, and bicycle powered smoothies.

  • Sierra Club, Save the Sound, Rainforest Action Network, and other national grassroot organizations

Children's Activities All Day from 12 - 6 p.m.
